City of Chicago

Located in the Chicago Plain along the south-southeast shoreline of the lake Michigan, the city of Chicago has a population of approximately 2.7 million within the city limits and a total of (approximately) 9.9 millions of inhabitants in the metropolitan area known as Chicagoland. The population density within the city itself is approximately 13K people per square mile, making it one of the nation's most densely populated cities.

The main ethnic groups in Chicago include Irish, German, Italian, Mexican, Arab, English, Bulgarian, Czech, Greek, Black, Korean, Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Swedish, Ukrainian, Dutch and Puerto Rican. One of Chicago's unique features is that it is indeed a melting pot of different cultures creating its own cultural brand whose character is unmatched worldwide.

Chicago is home to 12 Fortune 500 companies and has the third largest gross metropolitan product in the United States, approximately US$550 billion. The city has grown to become a major financial, transportation, and distribution center. Manufacturing, printing and publishing, and food processing also play major roles in the city's economy.

In addition to the beautiful skyline along lake Michigan, there are numerous attractions for visitors, spanning from museums and galleries, through various performing arts, to parks and skyscrapers. There are over 120 hotels within the city of Chicago.

In addition to ICDE 2014, there are tons of sources of fun and places to be seen, and many of those can be checked at Chicago Travellers Wiki.
